Wallet Drainer
Malicious software or a malicious website designed to empty a crypto wallet the moment it is connected or signed with.
A wallet drainer is a piece of code, often disguised as a helpful dapp, a giveaway, or an airdrop claim page. It watches for wallet connections and pushes signature requests crafted to move as much value as possible in a single transaction.
How it works
The user is lured to the site through ads, DMs, or fake support links. When she connects and signs, the drainer either transfers tokens directly, sweeps NFTs, or quietly registers approvals to be drained later.
Red flags
- Links from strangers, comments, or search ads leading to unknown “airdrop” sites.
- Sites that ask you to sign multiple prompts in a row without clear explanations.
How to protect yourself
Only connect your main wallet to platforms you know and trust. For anything experimental, use a separate small wallet with limited funds. When in doubt, close the tab and walk away. Nothing you miss is worth what a drainer can take.
