Airdrop Phishing
A scam where a fake token or NFT is dropped into your wallet to lure you to a malicious site when you try to claim or sell it.
Airdrops are real. Legitimate projects sometimes send free tokens to early users. Scammers copy the format to lure people to malicious claim sites where they can be drained.
How it works
You notice a new token in your wallet. Its name may include a website URL. You visit that site to see what it is worth. The site tells you to connect and claim. What you are actually signing is an approval that gives the site permission to take real assets from your wallet.
Red flags
- Tokens with URLs baked into the name.
- Airdrops from projects you never interacted with.
How to protect yourself
Leave mystery tokens alone. Do not click, do not claim, do not sell. Hide them and move on. If a real project owes you an airdrop, you will hear about it through their own official channels first.
