Seed Phrase Scam
Any scheme where someone tries to get you to type, share, or photograph the recovery phrase for your wallet.
Your seed phrase, sometimes called a recovery phrase, is the master key to your wallet. Anyone who has those words can recreate your wallet and take everything in it. Seed phrase scams exist because attackers know this.
How it works
A scammer poses as customer support, a wallet team, or a project. They send a message about a “security check,” a “sync issue,” or a “verification” and ask you to enter your seed phrase into a website or share it in a chat. The moment you do, your funds are gone.
Red flags
- Anyone at all asking for your seed phrase for any reason.
- DMs from a “support agent” you did not contact first.
- Sites asking you to type your recovery words to “validate” your wallet.
How to protect yourself
No real wallet, exchange, or team will ever ask for your seed phrase. Write it down offline, store it somewhere private, and treat any request for it as a scam, without exception.
