Fake Support Scam
A scam where someone pretends to be customer support for a wallet, exchange, or app so you hand over sensitive information.
Fake support scams thrive in crypto because so much of it is still new. The scammer waits in comments, DMs, or forums for someone asking a support question, then swoops in claiming to be from the team.
How it works
You post a question. Within minutes, a very helpful “support agent” DMs you. They send a link to a “secure portal,” ask you to connect your wallet, share your seed phrase, or send a small verification fee. It all feels professional. It is all fake.
Red flags
- Support reaching out to you first, in DMs, minutes after you posted.
- Any request for your seed phrase, private key, or a verification payment.
- Links to sites that look correct but have a subtly different address.
How to protect yourself
Always start support requests from the official website or app, never from a DM. Assume anyone who contacts you first is a scammer until proven otherwise.
